Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The title of our media product is called "Deleted" this short title is easy to remember and can be used easily in conversation which is a clever marketing strategy to bring in more revenue to the film. films that are similar to this in the way that they have a short, dark, gripping title are films like insidious and sinister, both films that have done incredibly well in revenue. A good thing about horror films is that the majority of them usually do not have an extortionately high budget as they are quite easy to make and require little work in effects when it comes to the production of the film. We also chose to add the effect of surveillance cameras when editing our film to make it seem as though the main character of the film was being watched, similar effects are used in the making of films such as the paranormal activity series, i feel as though this effect adds realism to each shot in the fact that it is a real life thing rather than a shot from for example an aerial view which a lot of people would not actually be able to get a real life perspective making it seem somewhat unrealistic, and in horror films the main thing you want to aim for is scarring the audience and the best way to do that is to try and make the film seem as real as possible.
Story Plot main idea
The story line to my production is based on a small neighborhood that is in a state of equilibrium, everything is good and well in the neighborhood, low crime rate, high employment rate and everyone in the neighborhood is happy and knows each other well. One day the main character in the film is on his way back from his friends, and he is being followed, he comes in to his room, calls his girlfriend and suddenly a figure appears from behind his curtain. After that we don't know whats happened.. who is it? Is the main character dead?
Existing Media Products
I've looked in to similar products such as the trailer for the film 'Unfriended' which is a new film based on a group of friends using a social networking site to talk via a group chat, then suddenly someone signs in to their friends account who passed away and the whole film is based on their conversation and the bad things that happen to them.. they all see each other die one by one. The story id based on technology and how it can be manipulated to go against people and shows them how unsafe they are.
One of the main things that scares people most about this trailer is how relatable it is. In a lot of horror films it is obvious what is going to happen almost all of the time, with their generic story lines and plot twist. However unfriended plays on the audience's experiences with technology and open we are to technology so the film is based on factors which the audience is already familiar with which then makes the film more scarier than it seems.
I have taken inspiration from the film rather than copying the story line. For example i have decided to use technology such as FaceTime which links to the unfriended film.
